Thea & Tim
Polhawn Fort, Torpoint, Cornwall
Polhawn Fort is a beautiful wedding venue on the very top edge of Cornwall. As you drive down the cliff top coastal road you can see it sitting on Whitsand Bay overlooking the sea. As a wedding photographer, I see a lot of very beautiful places and buildings and this was breathtaking. I could immediately tell that Thea and Tim’s wedding at Polhawn would be stunning.
The Fort itself is full of quite amazing features. Its genuine features include a drawbridge, three foot walls and six foot thick ceilings, cannons and a murder slot. It was part of the Plymouth defences all constructed in the mid 1800s due to deteriorating relationships between Prime Minister, Lord Palmeston, and Napoleon III of France. Entering today you can feel the authenticity as you cross the drawbridge and down the granite spiral staircase into the heart of the fort.
Thea and Tim are a very fun and relaxed couple and you can tell they clearly make each other very happy. Even in the slightly grey and cloudy day the fort looked spectacular. But I think what stood out was how much of their day was filled with their personality. The ceremony would be outside on the lawn overlooking the sea to the sound of bagpipes. I would then whisk them away in a VW camper van to the very end of Tor Point to capture some photos of them on the coast before afternoon tea in the marquee and the fayre on the lawn. Their wedding would be full of surprises for their guests, chief of which was the rodeo bull towards the end. It would be finished off with a wonderful firework display from the farmer’s field up the hill. Their day was anything but grey like the weather, but full of fun, laughter and colour. Enjoy!
Congratulations Thea & Tim!
